John’s ashes scattered on ground he served for 53 years

PLAYERS past and present came out in force to remember an official who gave more than five decades to a junior football club.

A memorial game was held on Sunday in tribute to John Maley, who served New Hartley Juniors for 53 years.

The present New Hartley Juniors Under-18 side took on a Northern League Select XI.

Before the game started, John’s family gathered with the players in the centre circle to remember the former club secretary and scatter his ashes on the ground.

Proceeds from the game are being donated to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
