FORMER Darlington forward Josh Gray has signed for Ashington CFC.
The 21-year-old put pen to paper on Saturday night after being courted by the Woodhorn Lane outfit for a number of weeks.
Delighted Ashington boss Gary Middleton said: “We have been after Josh for a couple of weeks and are thrilled to bits to sign him and add him to the squad.
“Josh comes to us as an ex-professional with Darlington and was training with them in pre-season but felt his future lay elsewhere.
“We have fought off competition from other Ebac Northern League clubs to secure his signature.”
An attacking wide player or forward, Gray made his debut for Darlington in 2008 in an FA Cup match against Droylsden and went on to make 49 appearances in both the Football League and the Blue Square Premier for the Quakers.
He was with fellow Northern League first division outfit Newton Aycliffe last season, where he made 30 appearances and scored three goals.
However, Colliers supporters will not know until shortly before kick-off whether the latest newcomer will make his debut in Saturday’s FA Cup extra preliminary round match against Sunderland RCA at Woodhorn Lane on Saturday.
Gray has a slight groin strain which puts a question mark over his fitness.
