ASHINGTON manager Gary Middleton praised goalkeeper Karl Dryden for his performance against South Shields.
He added: “We came in one-nil up at the break but Karl has probably kept us in the game with a fantastic save from a side-foot volley at the far post.
“I thought the second period was very similar and very even.
“They have created two or three chances but I think we’ve had some good play as well.
“However, Dryden was the pick for us. He has come for crosses and dealt with them admirably with clean and safe handling.
“He was solid when we needed him to be and on top of that, he has also pulled off some great saves to safeguard three points for us.”
The boss admitted his side had been forced to grind out their 1-0 win over South Shields.
The Colliers boss said the contest was even and his side had to earn the three points.
“We’ve had to work hard but it was a great workmanlike performance and one which we have been asking the players for, for a while,” he said.
“We cannot always win well, sometimes you have to grind a result out and I thought the lads did that against a very useful South Shields team.”
