ASHINGTON CFC Ladies Under-12s beat West Denton Girls 1-0 to remain top of the Northumberland Girls Football League.

Despite dominating the game it was a solitary Abby Sheldon goal which clinched the points.

This weekend the Angels take on nearest rivals Fenham Jaguars, with a 1pm kick-off at the Complete Soccer Gosforth.

The Under-13 squad suffered a 6-3 defeat at home to a strong Prudhoe side.

The Angels created numerous chances but could not convert them to goals and defensive errors cost them dearly.

Goalscorers for Ashington were Ellie Hopper, Courtney Johnson and Chelsea Burdis.

The Ladies squad were left without a game following the late withdrawal of Newcastle Medics.

Several players and management took the opportunity to watch Percy Main Ladies beat Lowick United 3-2 after extra time in the quarter-final of the League Cup.

Ashington will now play Percy Main in the semi-final on April 3 at Purvis Park.

Their next fixture is away to Newcastle Uni on Tuesday, March 29, kick-off 6.30pm at Coach Lane, Longbenton.
