Late Naples goal nets win for Ladies

ASHINGTON Ladies moved into the third qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup following an enthralling tie against Redcar at Woodhorn Lane on Sunday.

The Angels made a great start by taking the lead in the third minute when visiting keeper Lowe brought Stacey Naples down inside the box and leading scorer Laura Jobson rifled home the resultant penalty.

Naples headed narrowly over from a corner before the visitors got back into the game with McLean’s well drilled shot giving keeper Coral Duff no chance.

Karen Wright put Ashington ahead a second time when she beat the keeper to the ball and stabbed home.

Chances came and went at both ends then just before half-time Ramsay hit a stunning shot to equalise.

At the beginning of the second half, the visitors took the lead when from a free kick Guy struck an unstoppable effort which went into the top corner.

Lauren Kavanagh hit a scorching effort from 22 yards to level at 3-3.

Six minutes from time Naples stabbed home in a goalmouth scramble to extend the Angels’ unbeaten run to eight games.

On Sunday Ashington Ladies return to league action with an away fixture at Walbottle.
