ASHINGTON CFC chairman Ian Lavery, pictured, has promised the Woodhorn Lane-based outfit will continue to make progress after crashing out of the FA Carlsberg Vase by a 3-2 scoreline at Long Buckby on Saturday.
Lavery said: “Like the supporters of the community football club, and especially those who followed the club at the weekend, I was totally gutted when the final whistle blew.
“After the first half it looked as if Ashington were well on their way to the last 16, but sadly it wasn’t to be.
“I share everyone’s utter disappointment but I promise one thing, that this club will continue to progress like they have this year in the FA Cup and FA Vase and all other competitions.
“Yes this is a major setback, but it’s time for the players to react with confidence and self belief.
“They need to dust themselves down and prepare to fight to the last minute of the season.”
