ASHINGTON chairman Ian Lavery paid tribute to Darlington 1883 on Saturday night.
The Quakers stretched their winning sequence to 11 matches with a solitary goal by Steven Johnson deciding the outcome against the Colliers.
And the Woodhorn Lane chief was quick to give praise to the league leaders.
“The visit of Darlington encouraged the highest league attendance at Woodhorn Lane with both sets of supporters in great voice.
“They enjoyed the game in great spirit, which made for a fantastic footballing occasion, and I’d like to place on record my thanks to Darlington and their supporters for travelling to our ground, mixing with our own very vociferous fans and making it a special occasion not just on the pitch but off it as well.
“I’d also like to wish Darlington every success in their efforts to climb the league pyramid and would look forward to a future fixture against them at Woodhorn Lane as they are a credit to the north east.”
