League set for last two cup finals of the season

The Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League’s last cup finals of the season take place on Sunday at Bedlington Terriers’ Walfare Park.

Ashington Northern Social Club will play Blyth High Street in the JD Marnock Cup, which kicks-off at 10.30am. Then at 2.20pm, Burradon and New Fordley take on Spring Gardens from North Shields in the George Davison Cup.

Onlyone game was played in the premier division on Sunday, and Burradon and New Fordley tightened their grip on the title with a 6-0 win at home to Red Lion Earsdon. Dale Pearson (2), Andrew Waugh, Paul Alexander, Graeme Cairns and David Atkinson the scorers.

Division one saw Ashington Sporting beat Whitehouse 2-1 in a local derby. On target for Sporting were Jordan Anderson and Tommy Wilkinson with Michael Freathy scoring for Whitehouse.

Guide Post SC went down at home by the odd goal in three against Ashington Northern. Mathew Wilkinson scored for Guide Post, but strikes from Kris Coppen and Richard Stobbart won it for Northern.

Newsham Victory avenged their midweek defeat against High Street with a 3-1 win. Chris Laidlaw scored for Street and Chris Coppen, David Lillico and Daniel James for Newsham.
