Les Alderson Memorial Cup match hopes to raise £10,000

Organisers behind the Les Alderson Memorial Cup match and celebration Day are looking to break through the £10,000 barrier for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The day takes place this Sunday at Woodhorn Lane and organiser Nicola Shotton, said: “Steve Harmison has selected his Ashington side and Mel Harmison has picked his Bedlington outfit to go head to head in honour of Les.

“With one win each, honours have been shared so far - as well as us being very successful in raising money for the MNDA.

“So far we have an impressive £8,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and we are hoping to hit the £10,000 mark this year.”

Doors open at 11.30am, a junior game kicks off at noon, before the main match at 2pm. Sponsorships can be made at www.justgiving.com/lamemorial/ or text LAMC50.

There will also be hot food on sale, a bouncy castle, a raffle, a tombola, a silent auction, minions, face painting and more.

“To add to the total raised on the day, we have a team of L.A Legends taking part in Gung-Ho at Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday September 19” added Nicola who along with Les Alderson junior, Ian Skinner, Lee Anderson, Jonathon Fitton, Mark Fitton, Andrew Rowell, Keira Bell and Kris Lavery, will be tackling the inflatable obstacles on a 5k course.
