Middleton praises Newcastle’s Peter Beardsley

ASHINGTON CFC manager Gary Middleton was full of praise for Newcastle United last week after being on the receiving end of an invitation from Magpies football development manager Peter Beardsley.

The Colliers were invited to take on the former United striker’s new charges.

Middleton said: “Peter asked if we could go along to the Newcastle training ground and give the development squad a game.

“The match was played behind closed doors – and it was another good work out for my lads as well in our preparations and readiness for the new campaign.”

Meanwhile, Middleton announced that he has signed 18-year-old utility player Louis Storey.

The Woodhorn Lane boss said: “Louis was released by the Newcastle academy and is a versatile defender or midfielder.

“He is a player with a lot of energy and has got a good physique for his age and has fitted in with us very quickly.

“His attitude both on and off the pitch has stood out and we’re delighted to have him. He’s a great addition to the squad.”
