ASHINGTON CFC manager Gary Middleton was delighted with his side’s 7-0 away win at Stokesley on Saturday, describing it as a ‘comfortable victory’.
Middleton said afterwards: “It wasn’t the greatest performance but you can only beat what is in front of you.
“We were a little bit sloppy at times but you can’t complain too much about being 4-0 up at half-time.
“The second half was very similar, where we were in second or third gear, but it’s another three points in what was a comfortable victory and you cannot compensate for players thinking a week in advance and looking after themselves.
“We didn’t want to pick up any aggravating injuries or bookings in view of the Grimsby match and with all due respect, I was happier that we faced the likes of a side like Stokesley than for us to meet one of the leading teams in the league.”
