Blyth Spartans midfielder Matty Wade has signed for South Shields.

Spartans manager Tom Wade said: “Matthew has shown huge character in the three seasons he has been at Blyth, turning in to a vital member of the squad. Being named as an England C stand-by player says a lot.

“To lose a player of his age and quality is a tragedy. I think everyone knows the reasons so I don’t want to go over them again, but I must say that I don’t know of any player in my management career who would have pulled on the shirt and put in 100 per cent in every game while knowing that he would still get what he did.

“I know he was proud to play for his home town club and will thank the true supporters who stuck by him.”
