NEW Hartley Juniors progressed into the semi-final of the Durham FA County Youth Cup with a convincing win over Gateshead-based Leam Lane.

Having already lost 5-4 to Leam last month, a tough tie was in hand but Hartley were four up before half-time.

Michael Dunworth put Hartley in front on only ten minutes with a 25-yard drive.

And just five minutes later Brad McLelland doubled Hartley’s lead.

Further goals before the interval killed the tie with strikes from Marc Heaman and Sam Norris.

Hartley failed to add to their tally after the break, but Hughes gave Leam a consolation in the dying minutes.

Hartley’s ‘shallow’ squad included no fewer than five under 16s and the youngsters stood their ground against a physical Leam outfit.
