There will be a new name on the John Maley Youth Cup this season after holders New Hartley Juniors were beaten by the odd goal in seven at Darlington on Saturday.

It was the holder’s that got off to a great start with Callum Johnston firing home a free kick from 20 yards.

New Hartley held that lead until the 40th minute when Darlington amazingly netted three times in the last five minutes of the half.

Goals from Adam Lee, Tom Young and Matty Pennell left Hartley shell shocked at the break.

Midway through the second half the visitors were awarded a penalty and Marcus McCreedy tucked it away to make it 3-2.

New Hartley pushed forward searching for an equaliser but Darlington went further ahead when Pennell got his second and his side’s fourth.

In the dying minutes Lewis Xibberas headed home to make it 4-3 but time ran out for Hartley and a semi-final now awaits the Quakers.

New Hartley are back in league action this Saturday at 2pm with a home game against Brandon United.
