New Hartley Juniors secured the Durham County Youth League title with a 2-1 win at Benfield Youth.

Benfield are the only team to beat Hartley in the league this season and they made it hard for the title chasers, but the visitors struck first through top scorer Ryan Drane.

But the second half was only minutes old when Benfield levelled through Dillon Blake.

Played in high winds, the game could have went either way, but with ten minutes remaining Dean Briggs stepped up to curl a 20-yard free kick into the top corner to give Hartley the points.

With Bedlington losing 2-1 to Whickham, the three points meant Hartley could now not be caught and the title was theirs with two games remaining.
