New Hartley lose winning record

NEW Hartley Juniors’ 100 per cent record came to an end on Saturday with a 3-1 home defeat against Benfield.

Having won all their previous six league games they came up against a good side that saw some cracking goals from both teams in which was Hartley’s first game in three weeks.

Benfield took a first half lead when a clever chip from Michael Nolan ended up in the back of the Hartley goal to give the Tynesiders the half-time advantage.

Early into the second half a 25-yard strike from Dan Briggs brought Hartley level.

Both sides looked for a winner but it was Benfield who went 2-1 up with ten minutes to go through Michael Baxter.

Then James Darby secured the win when his 20-yard effort went in off the crossbar.

Bedlington Terriers Juniors also won in the league with a 3-0 win over Whickham, goals coming from Barrett, Ure and Tennent.
