NORTHUMBERLAND Under-16 boys are through to the NCSFA Inter-County Trophy final after a 5-2 win over Cheshire.
After an early chance for Cheshire, Sean McRoberts finished at the second attempt to put North in front.
Within five minutes it was 2-0 when Luke James pressurised a defender, stole possession and finished confidently.
The North defence was looking solid, with goalkeeper Liam Blair a confident figure at the back, and at the other end, pressure on a cross by Adam Garritty forced an own goal which gave North a comfortable half-time lead.
The second half saw a Sean Cowx effort hit the bar.
James broke clear to shoot low past the advancing keeper.
Cheshire pulled one back before a break released Jamie Lockhead from the half-way line to keep his composure and give the keeper no chance.
Cheshire came back and scored a deserved second consolation when Lewis Morana was played through and finished well for his second of the match.
This fine result puts Northumberland into the final of the Northern Counties Trophy, where they will meet the winners of the Lancashire v Cleveland clash.
