THE Morpeth Sunday League Lewin Cup quarter-finals were finally completed this week and for the second week running Red Row defeated Pegswood.
The scoreline was 2-1 with the Red Row goals coming from Adam Shanks and Sean Palmer, with the Pegswood response from Ashley McAlpine.
The remaining two Challenge Cup quarter-finals were also completed as both the Shakespeare Tavern and Stobswood progressed to the last four.
Tavern beat fellow division two opponents North End 3-1 thanks to goals from Ian Elliot, Scott Sherrington and Mal Lawson. North’s consolation was scored by Jack Small.
In the other tie, Stobswood edged out Morpeth Chantry 3-2. Mark Oman grabbed a brace for Stobswood with the other strike coming from Robert Baker. Chantry’s replies came from Ryan Murphy and Steven Young.
In division one, Ashington RAOB overcame Bedlington Barrington Arms 3-1 and are now three points behind Pegswood with a game in hand, however they have a vastly inferior goal difference.
On target for the Buffs were Darren Reay, Shaun Gibson and Craig Robinson, with the Monkey reply scored by Dylan Williamson.
Wharton Arms Bedlington defeated Amble Dock Hotel 13-0, with Joe Moscrop (3) Damon Mullen (3) Chris Dobey (2) Joe Bolam (2) Simon Cunningham (2) and Robbie Black on target.
In division two, Bomarsund and HMP Northumberland played out a hard-fought 3-3 draw. Veteran striker Kris Grey got a hat-trick for Bomarsund with the HMP replies coming from Staples, Wren and Dodds.
In the only other division two game, East Chevington defeated Amble Blue Bell 3-1 thanks to a Gary Reid brace and an effort from Jack Godfrey. Amble’s solitary reply was scored by John Spears.
