SUNDERLAND RCA boss Neil Hixon was pleased with his side’s second half performance in the 3-1 defeat against Ashington on Saturday – even though he admitted that the home outfit deserved to take all three points.
Hixon said: “We started really slowly – and badly – and to be fair Ashington could have been three or four up in the first half and we couldn’t have complained.
“Second half we changed the system a little bit, shifted people around and I thought we edged it.
“We had three or four very good chances and maybe on another day we could have nicked something, but overall I thought Ashington just deserved it.
“I thought we were in the game when we got back to 2-1.
“Gary Shields flashed a little header wide from a corner when he should have scored, then Ross Preston had an opportunity at the back stick which he missed – but Ross is a centre half who is playing centre forward at the moment because we are struggling up top.
“It was a finish by a centre half really and on another day a centre forward would have taken another touch and hit the target.
“But I was pleased with the second half performance from my lads.”
