Shandran, Lowery and Holmes leave Bedlington Terriers
IT is change all round at Bedlington Terriers this week with three leading figures at the club moving on.
Former Blyth Spartans player Ronan Liddane is the new chairman.
Now a businessman and independent financial advisor, Liddane has taken on the role in the boardroom of the Northern League club with immediate effect.
Lowery’s decision to leave Welfare Park leaves Keith Perry in sole control as first team manager.
The Lowery and Perry partnership joined Terriers in 2007 with the side struggling to avoid relegation.
And over the last five seasons the pair have hauled the club back into the top half of the first division.
Neil Saxton is joining the club as assistant manager having been in charge of second division outfit Whickham last season.
Following his resignation, Holmes said: “After six years as chairman I feel now is the right time for change.
“I’ve enjoyed my time as chairman immensely and can leave the post with a strong sense of pride, knowing that I’ve always tried my best for the club and it is now on a very firm footing for my successor to take the club on to many successful years.”
“When I became part of the club in 2006, we were literally a day or two from extinction, so to look at where the club is today leaves me with a warm feeling of satisfaction.
“We have achieved so much in that time, but there is still much to do and I hope that the new chairman gets the same support from the members that I have had.
“I would like to go on record to thank everyone who has helped and supported me during my tenure and I’m sure that if the same effort is shown by the members in the future, then the club will go from strength to strength.”
The announcement was made at the club’s annual AGM on Monday night, when Liddane was also introduced as Holmes’ successor.
A statement from the club said: “Ronan has a strong footballing pedigree having played for Blyth Spartans, Blue Star, Bishop Auckland and managed Crook Town FC in the past.
“The club would like to wish Ronan the very best of luck in the role and hope that he can bring overdue success to the club.”
On the decision by Lowery to leave, a club statement said: “The club would like to go on record to thank Tony most sincerely for all his years service with us.”
