Blyth Spartans keeper Peter Jeffries is set for a staring role on TV – but this time not in an actual match.

He is to make a special guest appearance on A Question of Sport in an FA Cup edition of the show.

He will be trying to deny a host of famous names scoring past him from the penalty spot.

Jeffries will be between the sticks facing the likes of Alan Shearer, Phil Neville, Trevor Sinclair and Jason Roberts.

Jeffries said: “It’s a great thrill and privilege to be asked to be part of the programme.

“I couldn’t believe it when I got the call.

“Facing players like those will be an amazing experience.

“Alan Shearer was in our dressing room before our recent FA Cup tie at Hartlepool. That was incredible enough, but facing him in a penalty shoot tops it. I can’t wait.”

The show, which will be broadcast on January 2 on BBC One, at 7.30pm.
