ASHINGTON have been drawn away while Bedlington have been handed a home tie in this season’s opening round of the FA Cup.

The Colliers will make the journey to play Ryton & Crawcrook Albion in the extra preliminary round on August 20 – the second Saturday of the season – with the winners at home in the preliminary round to either West Allotment Celtic or Northallerton a fortnight later.

Bedlington Terriers meanwhile will entertain Whickham with the prospect of another home tie in the preliminary round against either Crook Town or Billingham Town.

If the Colliers progress to the first qualifying round they will travel to either Jarrow Roofing, Guisborough, Shildon or Consett on September 17.

Terriers on the other hand would continue to retain home advantage should they reach the first qualifying round, with either Stokesley SC, Newcastle Benfield, Chester-le-Street Town or South Shields the potential visitors to Welfare Park.

In the FA Carlsberg Vase, Bedlington entertain Stokesley SC in the first qualifying round on September 10, with a trip to the winners of the North Shields v Northallerton Town tie awaiting on Saturday, September 24.

Should they make it through the opening two qualifying rounds, Bedlington will be at home to either Sunderland RCA, Chester-Le-Street Town, Stokesly SC or Bishop Auckland in the first round proper.

Gary Middleton’s Ashington are one of 28 clubs exempt until the second round proper.

Meanwhile Stephen Young scored twice with Gareth Bainbridge grabbing the other goal as Ashington opened their pre-season programme with a 3-1 win over Eyemouth at the Hirst Welfare.

Next up for the Colliers is a clash against North Shields tonight (Thursday) at the Hirst Welfare, kick-off 7pm.

Then on Saturday Pinpoint Recruitment Northern Alliance outfit Ponteland United arrive at the Welfare for a 2pm start.

On Tuesday, July 19, Ashington continue their warm-up games when they take on Sunderland College at Woodhorn Lane, kick-off 7.30pm.

Bedlington’s next pre-season game is on Wednesday, July 20, when Ryton will visit Welfare Park.
