Town’s rebuilt squad ready for the new campaign

MORPETH Town are ready for the 2011-12 season with a new squad assembled by manager Nick Gray.

Town recently lost a pre-season friendly 3-2 against STL Northern League division one club South Shields.

In a credible performance goals from Hall and Howes gave Morpeth a 2-1 half-time advantage.

With the full squad being utilised in the second half South Shields took advantage of the changes in the Morpeth back four to score two quick goals to run out fortunate victors.

In blustery conditions Morpeth lost 2-1 to Whitley Bay.

The highlight of the game being a fine first time cross field volley from Johnstone that flew into the net from 15 yards.

And Morpeth made the long journey to the University of Stirling Sports Campus to take on a Falkirk XI containing a current Scottish youth international.

Against full-time opponents Morpeth took the lead three times through Hall, Dormand and Newton before eventually being pegged back to earn a fully deserved 3-3 draw.

A first pre-season clean sheet was obtained in a 0-0 draw at Amble United.

Morpeth start their STL Northern League division two campaign at Washington on Saturday and their first home game at Craik Park is against near rivals Alnwick Town on Monday, August 29, kick-off 11am.
