BLYTH Rangers Valencia Under-16s were forced into extra time before seeing off Prudhoe YC 6-4 in the League Cup second round.
This was a game Blyth looked like they would control from the start as they went 2-0 up inside ten minutes.
First Jack Young’s superb finish from Rhys Brown’s through ball, quickly followed by Ross Laidlaw’s header after some good work from debutant Robert Goodall put them ahead.
Prudhoe pulled one back on the half hour but Mitchell Amatt restored the two-goal cushion from a scramble after a Blyth corner.
The second half saw Laidlaw provide the cross for Liam Sinkinson to poke home at the far post and at 4-1 Blyth were cruising.
But with their foot off the gas, and some lack of concentration, Prudhoe were allowed back into the game with two quick goals.
Ten minutes from time Prudhoe were level from the penalty spot.
Extra time saw Blyth reapply the pressure and Laidlaw got his second from Rhys Thompson ball to make it 5-4.
Shortly after, Laidlaw crossed for Josh Carr to head home to make it 6-4 and set up a third round clash with league one side Wrekenton Nou Camp.
