THE top of the table clash between Blyth Rangers Valencia Under-16s and Guide Post Juniors was the third time this season the sides had met with Blyth winning both.
Defences were on top in the first half and chances were limited as the score stood at 0-0 at the interval.
But the game came to life in the second half. Firstly it was Guide Post who took the lead after some good work from their forwards and Alex Robertson was unable to get hold of the ball and it was fired in from six yards out.
But Blyth never looked out of the game and came back into it from the penalty spot.
Michael Morris’s cross was cut out by Guide Post defender but the ball struck his hand and man of the match Andrew Asman slotted the ball home from the spot for his fourth goal in three games against Guide Post.
Blyth’s Robert Goodall and Josh Carr both had chances before Carr controlled well and turned inside the box to shoot across the goal to give Blyth the winner and more importantly the three points.
There were still chances in the final minutes at both ends for a goal.
Firstly Asman cleared off the line to deny Guide Post and from the resulting clearance Carr got free after some good work from Ross Laidlaw down the left, but the keeper made a great save to deny Blyth a third.
