MIDFIELDER Shaun Vipond believes Blyth Spartans can take a lot from the game against Marine on Saturday, despite conceding a late equaliser.

He insisted that Blyth Spartans had no reason to be negative after such a good showing against a side which had a 100 per cent record going into the clash at Croft Park.

The much fancied Merseyside outfit were four wins from four with only one goal conceded so far this term, but a strong showing from Spartans was nearly rewarded with all three points, only to be snatched away from them with a late Karl Noon goal.

Vipond said: “They’re one of the best sides in the league and will definitely be there or thereabouts come the end of the season, so we can take massive positives from the game.

“We have worked hard and when you come from 1-2 down against a top side to nearly win, the lads did well and we have to be positive.”

After an injury hit campaign last time out, Vipond is working his way back towards full fitness and is starting to feel the benefit of the hectic schedule Spartans face.

He added: “I am getting fitter each week but I still have a long way to go, I know that.

“Through the week I have been topping up my fitness going out for runs, and playing three games in a week meant I was a bit tired today, but I think that’s understandable after nearly a year out of the game.”
