Team Northumbria boss Paul Johnson believed his side caused their own problems in their 4-1 defeat by Ashington at Woodhorn Lane on Saturday.
Johnson – whose outfit went into the clash on the back of a four match unbeaten run – said: “In the first half we had to do a lot of defending but I thought we came through it.
“Then after the break we created our own problems.
“The first goal was a mistake by us. It was a long kick by the Ashington keeper and a defender makes a mistake by getting underneath it, then for the second goal, our centre half has passed it to the Ashington centre forward who scored.
“So from it being a 0-0 game we have chucked it away by doing those two things.”
He continued: “The other two goals which followed is because we are chasing the game and from it being level and tight and compact, we are then two-nil down and it’s a different story.”
The boss has no doubts that his side will escape the drop come the end of the season.
He added: “We are third bottom of the league but our biggest problem is the number of injuries which we have had to contend with.
“We are steadily starting to get players back – and we are talking about six of them – so it’s almost half of your team. It’s killed us really.
“We are making signings coupled to the injured lads coming back and we’ll get out of the situation which we currently find ourselves in.”
