Women enjoy emphatic win

ASHINGTON CFC Ladies went to the top following an emphatic win over fifth placed Prudhoe on Sunday at Kimberley Park.

They started brightly with a narrow miss by Ashleigh Betts, but in the seventh minute Laura Jobson lobbed the keeper to open the scoring after she had been put through by Rebecca Caldow.

On 20 minutes it was 2-0, Caldow’s pinpoint cross was met at the far post by Betts who headed home.

On 55 minutes Jobson hammered home from 25 yards with a thunderous shot.

Shortly afterwards Karen Wright hit the fourth when her shot cannoned off the post past the stranded keeper.

Then Jobson grabbed her hat-trick with a long range effort.

The sixth came when Wright got her second goal as she dribbled around the keeper to stab home, and finally Stacey Naples scored the seventh with a powerful shot from distance which flew in.

Sunday sees Ashington Ladies take on Prudhoe Town Ladies in the first qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup at Woodhorn Lane, kick-off 2pm. Admission will be £2 but free to concessions.
