An injury time winner by Karly Davis won all three points for Newcastle East End Ladies who came from behind to beat Woodhorn Ladies.

Ashington had dominated the early stages and raced into the lead on six minutes through Sarah Taylor, who scored from close range.

The home side added a second on 12 minutes when Laura Fairley’s well taken free kick was met by Laura Jobson.

However, on the half hour the visitors got back into the game after some poor defending.

Davis netted with a rasping shot from the edge of the box and minutes later the scores were level as Katy Donnelly capitalised on another defensive error.

Megan Tighe, Fairley and Kavanagh had chances for Ashington but the visitors were mounting pressure and it took two great saves from keeper Jade Gibbs to keep them out.

On 85 minutes, Donnelly’s shot cannoned off the bar as they searched for the winner, and on 91 minutes it came when Davis flashed home from 25 yards.

Ashington Woodhorn Ladies FC thanked UK Coal for its donation to the club.
