Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies went top of the Northumberland Wonen’s League as they made it three wins from three in a comfortable victory over Forest Hall at the Hirst Welfare on Sunday.
Ashington started brightly and Karen Wright twice went close while Kristie Fenwick was only inches away from the opening goal.
Eventually it was Fenwick’s superb corner which was not cleared that allowed Emma Ginger to stab the ball in to put Woodhorn ahead on the half hour mark.
Lauren Kavanagh and Sarah Taylor both went near before Wright powered home to make it 2-0 minutes ahead of the break.
Ashington had chances from Taylor, Wright and Kavanagh before Taylor was bundled over in the area and a penalty was awarded. But Peart saved well from Wright’s spot kick.
However, two minutes later, Wright made up for her miss when she netted from 25 yards with a shot in the left hand corner.
Danielle Hooker, Kavanagh and Leah Montgomery had chances to increase the lead but the score stayed the same as the Ashington Ladies continued their winning run in the league.
