Woodhorn Lane Ladies hit seven to go top

Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies went to the top of the league with a 7-0 victory at near neighbours Cramlington United at the weekend.

Woodhorn dominated from the off and following chances for Rebecca Caldow, Megan Tighe, Laura Jobson and Kristie Fenwick, Lauren Kavanagh opened the scoring in the 20th minute when she connected with Caldow’s corner.

Ten minutes later, Caldow’s perfect cross was stabbed home by Fenwick, and after Tighe twice went close, Caldow’s long run ended with her rifling home the third.

Three minutes into the second half Jobson’s free kick from 30 yards made it four; Fenwick netted the fifth after she met a Jobson cross then Laura Fairley dipped in a shot from just outside the box to add the sixth.

Corrie Murphy and Jobson both went close before Tighe concluded the scoring, nipping in to slot home from a Fenwick cross.

On Sunday Ashington Ladies meet Forest Hall at the Hirst Welfare where kick-off is 2pm.

Ashington: Gibbs, Hooker, Jenkinson, Murphy, Kavanagh, Fairley, Caldow, Jobson, Tighe, Taylor, Fenwick. Subs: Ginger, Laughton.
