Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies won convincingly at third placed Cramlington 3-0 to stay joint top of the Northumberland League.

Ashington dominated the first half with chances falling to Megan Tighe and Laura Fairley in the opening ten minutes.

Home keeper Louisa Paxton pulled off a great save on 32 minutes from a Fairley shot and both Kristie Fenwick and Lauren Kavanagh had good chances before the break.

In the second period, Sara Taylor was fouled just outside the box and Fairley hit home the resultant free kick for the opening goal.

Taylor added a second on 55 minutes when she rifled home a cross by Fenwick, then Fairley quickly added a third with a rasping shot from the edge of the box.

The game ended prematurely in the 87th minute when a clash between Lauren Kavanagh and home striker Laura Blake resulted in a serious injury for the Cramlington player who was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The result, however, will stand after the referee consulted both managers.

Ashington: Gibbs, Jenkinson, Ginger, Kavanagh, Hooker, Jobson, Taylor, Fenwick, Tighe, Fairley, Laughton.

On Sunday Ashington are at home to Newcastle East End in the Northumberland Senior Cup, where kick-off is 1.30pm at the Hirst Welfare.
