Ashington’s only over-40’s football team have reached the final of the league cup in only their third full season.
Woodhorn Lane secured a 3-0 away win in the semi-final against league champions Sunderland Oddies.
After weathering early pressure from the home side, Woodhorn Lane took the lead against the run of play with Gary Rennison finishing off a well worked move down the left.
Lane then took control of the game and extended their lead early in the second half through a smart finish from Mark Hyman.
The game was killed off late on the second half when Austen Ramsden finished well from inside the box after Woodhorn had exploited the space on the pitch as Oddies pushed forward looking to pull a goal back.
Woodhorn Lane will face Sunderland Rolls Royce in the final to be played at Herrington Burn on Saturday, May 9, kick-off 10.30am.
