Ashington Ladies progressed to the quarter-finals of the Northumberland Senior Cup with a convincing 8-1 win at the Hirst Welfare.

In a match which Ashington Ladies totally dominated, they took the lead in the 20th minute when Laura Fairley’s corner took a slight deflection to beat the visiting keeper.

Only minutes later Laura Jobson’s corner also beat the keeper to make it two.

Fairley let fly with a unstoppable shot from 35 yards to make it three on 30 minutes and Sarah Bennett picked up a loose ball and stabbed home the fourth.

Jobson added her second of the game as she smashed home a free kick into the roof of the net for the fifth before the visitors pulled a goal back on 55 minutes through Donnelly.

However, Ashington came back. Jobson and Fairley had chances and Lauren Kavanagh smashed a stunning 40-yard shot which clipped the bar.

Rebecca Caldow picked up the ball just over the halfway line got to within 30 yards of goal and cracked a shot which sailed into the net for the sixth.

Fairley sent Kristie Fenwick darting down the left who side-footed home at the far post to make it seven.

And with only minutes remaining Fairley once again supplied a perfect through ball to Fenwick who stabbed home the eighth.
