WOODHORN Lane Over-40s crashed out of the League Cup after a disappointing display against Philadelphia.
The visitors had a first minute opportunity when Gary Rennison went close, narrowly missing the target, then Scott Fulton picked up a loose ball and fired wide.
However, they paid the penalty for sloppy defending in the 12th minute allowing Philadelphia’s tall strong centre forward Maddison the chance to open the scoring.
The away side tried to get back into the game and after a spell of pressure got an equaliser.
In the dying seconds of the first half, Rennison slammed home from the edge of the box after some good approach work by Ramsden and Foalle.
Slack defending again reared its head with Maddison capitalising to notch his second and put the home side ahead.
Cunningham in the home goal tipped the ball just over the bar from Rennison and Woodhorn were denied what looked like a stonewall penalty when Rennison went to ground.
Although they applied plenty of pressure on the home goal, they were unable to snatch an equaliser which would have taken the game into extra-time.
Woodhorn Lane: Carrick, Hamilton, Wilkie, Burn, Lyall, Sim, Blyth, Ramsden, Rennison, Foalle, Fulton. Subs: Watson, Monery, Bowman, Sobey.
