Godsmark’s injury rocks the Colliers

ASHINGTON CFC striker Jonny Godsmark has already been ruled out of his side’s FA Carlsberg Vase fifth round tie away to Shortwood United on Sunday, February 12, – and could be missing for up to two months with a hamstring injury.

A devastated Godsmark said at the weekend: “The injury has been bothering me since we played Shildon back in December.

“I just felt something in the last five minutes of the game – I came off – and it’s just been niggling me ever since.

“It’s been feeling okay then I’ve been trying it out and it’s still been flaring up.

“Obviously I came off in the Vase at Newport Pagnell and spoke to the manager, Gary Middleton, about it who told me I needed to see a specialist to get the injury sorted out.”

He continued: “On examination, the specialist basically told me I would be out for six to eight weeks, and when he said that, I knew straightaway that there would be no chance of me playing at Shortwood in the Vase.

“It’s disappointing because I want to be part of the team.”

Godsmark went on: “The Vase games I have played for Ashington so far, have been fantastic – we’ve won most of them, and the fans have been excellent.

“However, I can’t do anything about it – but I’ll still be travelling down with the lads to cheer them on.”

Manager Middleton said: “It’s disappointing for Jonny and for us all, but this is football and successful teams have got to cope with injuries.

“He’ll be a big miss but we have a squad of players at this present time who are capable of managing that and you’ve just got to move on.”
