Group given £156 for new equipment

LOCAL group Fit2Fight Muay Thai Kickboxing Club in East Hartford near Cramlington has been awarded £156 through the BT People Awards scheme.

The group plans to use its award to purchase new protective equipment for junior training sessions.

Assistant instructor Calvin Petersen said: “We are very pleased with our BT People Awards as this will enable us to purchase more of the protective equipment that is needed to get the children sparring safely.

“They can often lose interest in a sport, and the sparring offers them a realistic approach that will help them improve and hopefully go on to enter competitions sometime in 2013.”

Gary Wilkinson, a customer service advisor at BT Retail, who applied for the award on behalf of the group, added: “I have been coaching at Fit2Fight for a year now.

“We intentionally keep the student fees low to promote regular attendance so that all students improve.

“We are low on resources and funding is hard to come by.

The BT People Awards provide a great opportunity for community groups like ours to get some additional help that can make a difference.”

Fit2Fight Muay Thai Kickboxing Club is located at East Hartford and District Community Centre, Scott Street, East Hartford, Cramlington NE23 3AP and the junior training sessions are on Tuesday at 6pm and Thursday 5.30pm.
