Gordon Foster and David Brown, of Aim Range Ltd, agree the sponsorship deal with top amateur snooker player John Astley.

A TOP amateur snooker player is hoping to be in the frame for even more success after securing another sponsorship.

Bosses at Blyth-based Aim Range (North East) Ltd have put a deal in place to sponsor John Astley after being impressed by his skills at the table.

John has been recognised as one of the top amateur players in the north east and is aiming to turn professional.

Aim Range, a family run business established in 1984, provides drain cleaning and maintenance services to the public and private sector.

David Brown, one of the company directors, said: “We have watched John at the recent Jimmy White and Stephen Hendry exhibitions and we were delighted to be able to provide additional support for John.

“His commitment and potential is clear for anyone to see.”

John is currently ranked 64th in the World Snooker Order of Merit rankings, but most importantly is positioned as the 5th top amateur in the same rankings and also ranked No.1 in the European Amateur Cup rankings with only two events to go.

Should John finish in the top eight at the end of the season he would turn professional and play on the World Snooker main tour.

John, who lives in Gateshead, said: “The support I have received from POPOLO based in Newcastle and William Delaney, Keep Trenchless Technologies, Dave Bushby and now Aim Range has been just fantastic, and without their support my dream of rising to be a top world ranked snooker player would of not even been possible.

“I’ve been playing snooker now since I was 13, and it’s been a long road to get this far, David and Gordon from Aim Range have been so encouraging and I am proud to be linked with such a great company.”
