Ashington’s home draw incentive
ASHINGTON CFC have been handed the incentive of a home draw in the quarter-finals of the FA Carlsberg Vase – if they can overcome Shortwood United.
The Colliers’ clash against the Gloucestershire-based side was a victim of the weather at the weekend, with all eight of the FA Carlsberg Vase Fifth Round ties being postponed due to snow and ice.
The game has now been rescheduled for this coming Saturday.
Ashington – enjoying their longest run in the competition – were first out of the hat in the draw on Monday, and will face a home tie against either Herne Bay or Larkhall Athletic, if they can see off the challenge of Shortwood.
For the other Northern League sides in Monday’s draw, winners for the last three seasons Whitley Bay will face a trip to either Bournemouth on the south coast or Billingham Synthonia in Teesside, if they see off West Auckland at the weekend.
Dunston UTS must overcome Bethnal Green to earn a trip to either Tividale or Peterborough Northern Star.
The sixth round ties are scheduled for Saturday, March 3.
