Chairman’s delight at win over Newcastle XI

THE chairman of Bedlington Terriers has praised his club’s players following their Northumberland Senior Cup win over Newcastle United Reserves on Tuesday evening.

Ronan Liddane said he was delighted with the side’s 3-2 win the quarter-final tie at Welfare Park.

“It was all about character and commitment and we showed it in abundance, creating the better chances over the 90 minutes and fully deserving our success.

“Overall it was an outstanding team effort but I must single out our veteran skipper Steve Bowey who rolled back the years with a vintage performance.”

Against opposition with players who have played for the Newcastle first team, including Shane Ferguson and Mehdi Abeid, Terriers came through with goals from Mark Convery, Mark Doninger and Richard Pell.
