Deportivo earn their point

BLYTH Rangers Deportivo made the trip to Longhoughton and came away with a hard fought but deserved point.

Both teams used the excellent playing surface to good effect and passed the ball around and used the flanks.

The game came into life in the seventh minute when Blyth took the lead.

Kristian Sands brought the ball out of defence and skipped past a couple of players before releasing a through ball for Jack Bell on the left wing.

He charged into the box only to see his progress halted by a strong challenge, but the ball fell kindly for Tom Fulthorpe and he scored with a well placed shot into the corner of the home team’s net.

The lead was almost doubled a minute later when Charlie Allison set top scorer David Dunworth away but his shot rebounded off the post.

Shane Clough put Dunworth through again a couple of minutes later but his first time effort go just wide.

Man of the match Dunworth was again unlucky in his attempt to knock the ball around the on-rushing home keeper – and the brave attempt finished his day as he picked up an ankle knock.

The home team got the goal which their overall played deserved when Blyth switched off at a throw-in on the Longhoughton left and the resulting cross/shot deceived the defenders and then bounced on the hard pitch over the despairing leap of Alex Cockburn in the Blyth goal.

With ten minutes to play both teams pushed for a winner with the away team coming closest when Jamie Worton fed the ball through to Fulthorpe who brought out a save from the Longhoughton keeper.
