Ellington and Ashington U9s share the spoils
ELLINGTON Eagles Under-9s got their new season under way with a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw against local rivals Ashington Colliers Under-9s at Hirst Welfare on a crisp Sunday morning.
There was little in the way of clear cut chances in the opening half as the two evenly matched teams cancelled each other out.
Reese Watson crashed a spectacular effort against the bar from 30 yards but the deadlock remained at half-time with the score 0-0.
The game burst to life early in the second half when Ben Neill slotted home a loose ball to give Ashington a 1-0 lead.
Connor Chiddy cleverly finished a through ball from Jack Blyth to equalise for Ellington midway through the second half.
Ellington then took the lead when Syndey Ram smartly finished past the Ashington keeper after a clever solo run.
Cameron Scott pulled off a brilliant save to deny Ashington an equaliser but could do nothing to prevent a close range finish from Liam Haig after good work from Archie Morpeth.
Ellington host Morpeth CSC this Sunday at Lynemouth at 9.30am.
