Hartley hit five on return to action
NEW Hartley Juniors started the year in style by going nap at Birtley on Saturday.
Playing their first game in seven weeks, Hartley took the lead on only three minutes with a Toy Spratt header, and only two minutes later Nathan Watt doubled their advantage.
David Fairgrieve then put the visitors three up just before the break.
Hartley dominated the second half but were reduced to ten men when striker Dan Taggart was red carded.
This did not affect Hartley, though, as substitute Scott Lowery netted twice in the closing stages to make the final score 5-0.
Coach Mick Woods said: “We won 5-0 at Brandon seven weeks ago and had not played since, so to come to Birtley and win by the same shoreline was extra pleasing.”
Hartley have been drawn against neighbours Bedlington Terriers in the Durham County Cup to be played later this month.
Terriers have been on a good run but went down 1-0 on Saturday at home to league leaders Ryton.
