Nelson the hat-trick hero for Deportivo

NEIL Nelson was the hat trick hero for Blyth Rangers Deportivo Under-14s as they came from a goal down to beat Corbridge 3-1 and progress to the next round of the League Cup.

The visitors started well but Corbridge scored in the eighth minute with their first attack following a ball through the centre of the Blyth defence which left keeper Alex Cockburn unprotected as the home centre forward scored from close range.

This spurred Deportivo into action but chances came and went before Nelson scored from close range just before half-time after Jack Bell saw his fierce shot parried by the home keeper.

The second half saw Blyth apply constant pressure and it was no surprise when they took the lead.

A flowing move saw man of the match Phoenix Telfer cross from the right and Nelson scored with a glancing header.

Shane Clough then set off on a driving run before feeding Nelson who saw his effort from the edge of the box deflect past the keeper to make it 3-1.

Further chances fell to Tom Fulthorpe, Reece Halliday and Clough, but the Corbridge keeper was equal to their efforts.
