Ravenhill in right place to snatch win for Hartley
NEW Hartley Juniors’s good run continued on Saturday with a hard fought 2-1 win over Ryhope.
Hartley welcomed back England schoolboy players Kyle Downy and Peter Ravenhill, who have both just spent a week in Spain with the national squad.
A close game was expected after the two sides fought out a 1-1 draw at Ryhope in November.
It was Ryhope who took the lead on 25 minutes when Matthew Harrision tried his luck fom 20 yards and saw his effort loop over Barnard into the Hartley goal.
Hartley fought back to level ten minutes later through Johnny Lowes.
The second half could have went either way but with both keepers and defences on top form, it was hard to see a winning goal coming, with a Ravenhill header shaving the post the closest to a goal.
But with 85 minutes on the clock, James Job played a great ball out to Sam Norris on the wing and he crossed hard and low and the Ryhope keeper failed to hold it and it fell to the poaching Ravenhill who blasted home from two yards to put Hartley 2-1 up.
Ryhope did have one last chance in the last minute but a supurb Kyle Barnard save made sure Hartley took all three points.
The two sides will meet again in the semi-final of the Durham Youth Cup next month, but on Saturday Hartley face a trip to Newton Aycliffe in the league.
