Valencia closing in on the leaders

IN the top of the table clash, Blyth Rangers Valencia Under-16s closed the gap on Guide Post to three points and still have three games in hand.

The first half was even as both sides had chances but both defences held firm. Blyth hit the post when Josh Carr’s long range strike had the keeper beaten.

Guide Post pressed also but were mostly reduced to long range efforts thanks to Rhys Brown and Kaelin Maddison at the heart of the Blyth defence.

Ross Laidlaw and Connor Vincent on at the start of the second half had an immediate impact in winning the ball, allowing Andrew Asman to pull the strings in midfield.

Asman played in Carr and he cut in from the left where his shot was parried and Laidlaw was there to follow up to score.

Carr then made way for Ryan Thompson and his first touch was to race on to through ball before hitting a first time strike past the keeper to make it two.

Rhys Thompson and Jordan Cochrane came on and got straight into the game. Cochrane breaking down the left on a couple of occasions and almost playing in Laidlaw for a third.

Rhys Thompson did, however, provide Laidlaw with the opportunity and he duly finished to make it three.

Guide Post got a consultation goal in the dying minutes but a great team display capped off by David Cardill’s man of the match performance showed why Blyth are favourites for the title.
