Martial arts club success

A UNIQUE martial arts club in Wansbeck has enjoyed a run of successes over the last couple of weeks.

The Combat Base North East Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club became the first of its kind in the county when it opened three years ago, serving Newbiggin and Ashington.

Its members have enjoyed an abundance of success lately, with Chris Campbell winning the Fightzone Heavyweight title in Mixed Martial Arts (ultimate fighting) with a convincing second round win.

Steve Muckle has also become Northumberland's first ever brown belt, and Ed Drysdale from Ashington won the north east lightweight title in submission wrestling after winning three fights, despite breaking a rib in the first.

Ed and Graeme Allsopp have also recently become purple belts, and Chris Campbell is due to become the fourth.
