All six schools with pupils in Year 8 in the Blyth and Bedlington School Sport Programme competed in the annual U13 rounders tournament.

A total of 80 girls participated in the event held at Guide Post Middle School, including four sport leaders from Blyth School Community College who acted as scorers.

On an usually hot afternoon, the teams each played five matches, showing some excellent batting and fielding skills.

After four matches, two schools – Bede Academy and Bedlington High School – were in the running to be crowned champions, and they played each other in the final match of the day, creating an exciting end to the competition.

Despite a valiant effort from Bedlington, Bede came out on top to win the trophy.

The other schools who competed were Meadowdale Academy, Guide Post Middle, Blyth School and St Benet Biscop.
