Six members of Ashington Karate Club are celebrating after being selected for a national sqaud.

Kyle Duddridge, Niamh Duddridge, sensei Andy Sherry, Gemma Gobson, Maya Burns and Dylan Gibson have all been chosen for the National KUGB Karate Union of Great Britain squad for 2014.

Sensei Andy Sherry 9th Dan has been selected as squad coach while Niamh is in the Kumite squad. Kyle, Gemma and Maya have been chosen for the junior kumite squad and Dylan is in the kata squad.

Ashington Karate Club has been established for more than 30 years and currently runs classes for all ages at the YMCA in Ashington on a Saturday morning, and at Mowbray First School, in Guide Post, three nights a week.

Sensei Jill Kelly, 6th Dan, said: “Ashington Karate Club has always produced good students who have achieved national squad recognition and gone on to compete internationally or simply students who like to do karate for fitness or self-defence.”
