Five members of Ashington Karate Club have been selected for the England Kumite and Kata squads.

Maya Burns, Niamh Duddridge and Gemma Gibson were all successful in being accepted onto the KUGB Junior Kumite squad while Kyle Duddridge, already a squad member, was re-selected.

A club spokesperson said: “This is a really positive start to 2014 and I am sure the extra training and mixing with the best junior fighters of the KUGB will be of great benefit to them all.”

Elsewhere, Niamh Duddridge and Maya Burns were selected onto the KUGB England Kata Squad while Dylan Gibson was re-selected.

The spokesperson added: “We have great representation now on the national squads. Everyone will undoubtedly benefit from the extra training with other talented karateka from all over the country and hopefully make great progress throughout this year and make many new friendships.

“Well done to everyone on the national squads.”
